When it comes to choosing an LCD HDTV you are spoiled for choice. Just walking into your local electronics store is enough to make your head spin; there are TV's of all sizes and price ranges. So how do you know which one to buy?

Four of the most important factors to consider when buying a high definition LCD TV are discussed in this article.

1. Screen Size
This is the first thing you're likely to decide on based on price and allocated space in your home. You should aim to buy as big as your space and budget allow. Some of the common screen sizes are 32", 42" and 52".

2. Resolution
To get a true high definition display you need to look for a resolution of 1080p which equals 1920 by 1080 pixels. Alternatively you can choose the more affordable 1366 by 768 pixels resolution.

3. Screen Finish
Your choice here is between matte and gloss finishes. The lighting conditions of your room will determine which screen finish will be suitable.

4. Ports
Almost all LCD HDTV's have ample ports but it is worth checking if there is at least one HDMI port which allows the use of just one cable for audio and video. Game consoles and Blu-ray players commonly use HDMI cables. Other ports to look for are S-Video and composite video. Some televisions will even have USB ports.

You may not have a desire to learn every little thing about LCD HDTV's but by being familiar with the above basic features you will be in a better position to select the TV that meets your needs and is within your budget.
